Bengaluru, Jun 5: Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar has ordered immediate suspension of all BBMP officers responsible for dumping mud and debris to create a 25ft wide road across the 49 acre Hosakerehalli Lake to help provide a road link to a premium apartment complex.

All the engineers and officers responsible for dumping mud and debris across Hosakerehallilake must be placed under suspension by evening, Shivakumar has asked BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath.

Addressing a meeting of all legislators from Bengaluru on the problems facing the city on Tuesday, Shivakumar was livid at the bizzare action taken by the BBMP officials to create the road by dumping mud and debris across the lake in Rajarajeshwarinagar.

"Who came up with this brilliant idea? Who ordered it? All the officers and engineers involved in the scandal must be punished,’’ he said when the BBMP officials present at the meeting fumbled in giving the answers.

Shivakumar said all elected representatives must work for the development of the city forgetting their political differences.

"The time for elections is over. Let us now concentrate on development of Bengaluru and solving its problems,’’ he said and made it clear that he was ready if the non-Congress leaders were interested in playing politics.

He asserted that he was not interested in political struggle but was ready to face any challenges.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed BBMP Chief Commissioner to ensure that the long-delayed Ezipur flyover must be completed by taking necessary administrative approvals. ``We cannot go on prolonging important infrastructure projects,’’ he said.

The BBMP officials must work a vision of 20 years and plan accordingly. The hoardings issue and lack uniform policy must be solved immediately. There cannot be different standards in different part.

Ministers K J George, B Ramalinga Reddy, Krishna Byregowda, Zameer Ahmed, MPs D K Suresh, Tejaswi Surya, P C Mohan, Chandrashekar and other MLAs, MLCs attended the meeting along with Chief Minister’s Political Secretaries Govindaraj, Nazir Ahmed and others.

Allow Children to take care of trees

Shivakumar, while participating in the World Environment Day at Rachenahalli later, said people especially the younger generation and school children must be roped in the drive to plan trees across different localities.

"Let the children plant the trees and be given the responsibility of taking care of them, including watering. The children must be given the honour of affixing their names to indicate ownership and responsibility. By involving the people, we can increase our green cover,’’ he said.
