New Delhi, Jul 17: Facing the heat from the Supreme court for the slow progress in the cash-for-vote scam, Delhi police on Sunday arrested Sanjeev Saxena, reportedly a one-time right-hand of former Samajwadi Party leader MP Amar Singh.
It may be recalled that Saxena was accused of offering Rs one crore in cash to three BJP MPs for voting in favour of the government. The allegation was levelled by the then-BJP MPs Ashok Argal, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora.
According to these three MPs, Saxena had given them cash at Ashok Agral's residence in New Delhi on July 22, 2008, a few hours before the vote of confidence was to take place.
It is learnt that Saxena has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
BJP had earlier accused Amar Singh of playing a key role in supplying the money to MPs through Saxena. Once the money was paid, all three MPs spoke to Amar Singh on the phone too.
But Amar SIngh had denied the charges and kept Saxena at a distance.
"Sanjeev Saxena was arrested from Delhi by Crime Branch police. There was evidence against him in the case. He will be produced in the court tomorrow,” a top police official said.
On Friday, the Supreme Court had expressed its displeasure in handling the case by Delhi police.
