Udupi, Jun 11: Safety nets have been put up along a one-kilometre stretch of the Malpe Beach where tourists frequently venture into the sea as a precautionary measure ahead of the monsoon.

Red flags and warning signs not to enter the water have been placed at regular intervals along the stretch.

The sea becomes rough during the monsoon. It would be dangerous to enter the water during this time. Though the monsoon has receded to some extent, the sea continues to be rough. Tourists cannot enter the water till the red flags are replaced with yellow flags, when it indicates that it is safe to enter the water.

The red flags are likely to be replaced with yellow ones by either the end of August or the first week of September after which the tourists may visit the Malpe Beach, according to the authorities.
