Kolkata, Jul 21: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday July 20 a day before the brigade rally announced that the government has decided to release the 52 political prisoners including two Maoist leaders.

Addressing the media, Mamata said: "This is the first phase of release of those politically remanded in custody. I will fulfill my commitment and more releases will happen soon."

Mamata plans to showcase her three achievements at the Brigade rally - the Darjeeling accord, the Singur bill and the release of political prisoners.

Even though respective courts have been asked not to oppose their bail, the court will have the final say on dropping of the sedition charges.

The Bandi Mukti Committee member said that even though they had recommended the release of 77 political prisoners, only 52 will be released.

Mamata in her announcement also said that a special package will be offered to Maoists for joining the mainstream.

do not release the prisoner as it will injure the society. You are a criminal and you deserve to be in jail.
