Eight Soldiers Die in Yemen Car Bombing

Aden (Yemen), Jul 24 (IANS): At least eight soldiers were killed and 20 injured when a booby-trapped car targeted a military patrol in Yemen's southern port city of Aden Sunday.

A military officer said that the booby-trapped car targetted a military patrol and exploded near the Defense Air Forces base in al-Mansoura district, leaving eight soldiers dead and 20 injured.

Local residents told Xinhua that heavy gunfire could be heard after a huge explosion rocked the al-Mansoura district.

Another security official said the bomb attack "bore the hallmark of Al Qaida group".

Last Wednesday, a British maritime expert was killed in a booby-trapped car bomb in Aden.

The southern port city witnessed a series of bomb attacks and explosions targeting a number of government facilities and military bases as government officials accused Al Qaida militants of masterminding and carrying out the attacks against the armed forces.
