Mithesh D’Souza Alangar elected president of ICYM Mangalore diocese

Mangaluru, Jul 4: Mithesh D’Souza Alangar was elected as the president of ICYM Mangalore diocese for the year 2023-24 on June 2.

The day begun with the Holy Eucharistic offered by Rev Fr Robert D’Souza the principal of Lourdes Central School Bejai and Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, director ICYM Mangalore diocese at Rosario Cathedral Mangaluru, followed by the annual general body meeting at Rosario Cathedral Hall. All the DEXCO office bearers, central council members, all deanery and unit office bearers were present during the meeting.

Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, director presided over the meeting. The treasurer Frayal Cross presented the annual accounts, Nishal Preemal D’Souza read out the report of the previous year’s AGM. Anil John Sequeira, president welcomed the gathering, Nishal Preemal D’Souza – general secretary delivered a vote of thanks and Delitia Asumptha Periera – lady vice president evoked God’s blessings.

Under the guidance of Fr Vijay Victor Lobo and the election commission of Mangalore diocese, the 2023-24 office bearers' election took place with assistance from Fr Kenneth Crasta, Fr Paul D'Souza, Fr Denzil Lobo, and the deacons.

Mithesh D’Souza Alangar and Winston Joel Sequeira Hospet were the contestants for the post of president, Nisha Ankitha D’Souza Cordel and Wilma Viyola Lobo Kokkada for general secretary and Anisha Fernandes Surathkal and Maxi Rostan D’Souza Bela for the post of joint secretary. As many as 108 units actively casted their votes during the election. Mithesh D’Souza Alangar was elected as the president, Wilma Viyola Lobo as the general secretary, Anisha Fernandes Surathkal elected was the joint secretary for the year 2023-24. Other office bearers who were elected unanimously are Delwin D’Souza Maniyampare as vice president, Lavisha Daisy D’Souza Salethur as lady vice president, Sushanth Samson Fernandes Arva as treasurer, and Jaison D’Souza Fajir as auditor.

The valedictory ceremony was organized in the evening followed by the handing over of responsibilities to the newly elected diocesan youth office bearers and oath taking. Vicar general Msgr Lawrence Maxim Noronha, Vincent Mascarenhas Moodbidri, Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza and all the DEXCO members were present on the dais. Vincent Mascarenhas was honoured for his 25 years of selfless service towards ICYM. Msgr Maxim Noronha appreciated the good work performed by the DEXCO members and congratulated the newly elected office bearers. Nishal Preemal D’Souza presented the annual report of the year 2022-23.

A token of appreciation was given to the past DEXCO members and central council members. Newly wedded couples who were former DEXCO members were felicitated. Delitia Asumptha Periera welcomed the gathering, Nishal Preemal D’Souza thanked each and every one for their support and encouragement. Jaison Vittal compered the programme. The day ended with the ICYM theme song. Jaison Lawrence Crasta and Viola Reshma Lewis conducted activities for the participants.
