Bantwal: Protective wall being built near Gadiyar school, electric tower

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (SS)

Bantwal, Jul 5: The Gadiyar Government School in the taluk is feared to be on the verge of collapse due to the ongoing development work on B C Road-Addahole highway and following the digging up of the hillock. A protective concrete wall is being constructed near the electric tower to ensure that the school structure is safe.

After the heavy downpour, the mud had caved in following the development work on the highway and digging up of the hillock that had been taken up till the school and electric tower end. Infuriated over the lack of safety in the work, the locals complained to the authorities.

Bantwal tahsildar S B Koodalagi along with other officials visited the spot on Monday and directed the NHAI engineers and contractors KNR Constructions to build a wall near the electric tower and the school. Construction work of the wall is likely to be completed within the next 10 days.

True; if it's not done by experts in the field, it's bound to collapse if more mud keeps sliding and putting load on it!

Breakdown maintenance has become shameless routine for many public construction projects.... Why studies were not conducted earlier and right precautions taken before works began? If one observes the public works in many places in and around our rather literate districts we can see scores of unscientific and eye wash tactics being used... They will only result in bad experience for the end users... Accountability is tossed away in the name of favoritism and political graft.... We are worse than the last few decades in project morality and project ethics....
