Udupi, Jul 5: Following the heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in Padubidri Kadipatna, Shankar Amin's residence witnessed intense sea erosion resulting in uprooting of four coconut trees and an electric pole which were part of the ongoing Padubidri beach development works.

The construction of the sea barrier between Padubidri beach and Kadipatna was allegedly cancelled due to a private individual's request resulting in intensified erosion, according to the locals.

KPCC co-ordinator and former taluk panchayat member Naveenchandra J Shetty has expressed disappointment and highlighted the government apathy in not fulfilling its payment obligations to the contractors responsible for carrying out the barrier works that were completed about two-three years back.

Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty is currently attending the budget session at the Legislature in Bengaluru.

Padubidri village accountant Mathai P M and village assistant Jayarama paid a visit to the place to assess the damage. Kaup tahsildar Srinivasa Murthy inspected the site and based on the village accountant's report reached out to the officials of the port and fisheries department.
