Mangaluru, Jul 6: Several vehicles were damaged after the metal roof of a private education institution in Talapady collapsed during heavy rainfall.

As the administration has declared a holiday for the educational institutions yesterday, no causality was reported and a major tragedy was averted.

The incident was reported after the ceiling of the six-floor building of the institution in Devinagara collapsed.

Several vehicles were damaged after iron rods landed on the vehicles parked beneath the building.

Very disturbing incident; the contractor who assembled and fixed this huge structure should be held accountable; definitely the erection frame was not designed to bear the load of the structure!

These structures should be designed-fabricated and fitted in such a way so they can withstand certain wind speeds commensurate with the climatic conditions of the region is it not; whoever told there were such high intensity winds in Mangalore till date!
