Mangaluru: 1000 EV charging stations to be established under Mescom limits

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 6: The Mescom is planning to open 1000 charging points for electrical vehicles (EV) in the next five years as the sale of EVs has increased considerably after the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government announced free electricity scheme for the public.

The Mescom has already given the contract of establishing EV stations in Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts to Medical Systems Company of Bengaluru. So far, no one has taken the contract for Udupi district.

In the first phase, 195 charging centres will be opened on PPP (Public Private Partnership) model. These centres will also have facility to charge cars.

At present, there are 61 centres under the Mescom limits. Out of this, 17 are in Dakshina Kannada, 12 in Udupi, 17 in Shivamogga and 12 in Chikkamagaluru.

There is a high possibility that the consumers may opt for electric vehicles in coming days as more charging centres are opened.

Now a days more and more EV vehicles are coming out and peoples are buying this in the interest of saving fuel cost. The main fear in buyer is range and always in fear whenever you are travelling on long distances. These charging points will really help in need. I am electric vehicle user and i have serious issue with these points. The Plug of the EV vehicles Like TATA,HYUNDAI,MG are not standard. Different manufacturer uses different plugs/sockets. These are not standardised and they carry high amperage of 15amps and more in some cases. Any aftermarket use of Plug connector to access the socket give rise to spark and it will damage the battery as my vehicle battery gone bad due to this .Major EV users are not able use these station due to mismatch. Better all manufacturer should use a standard common Plug further to solve this issue.
