Mangaluru, July 12: “Indefinite protests will be held till the newly opened bar and restaurant at Kairangala Punyakotinagar is vacated,” said the president of school management board Rajarama Bhat.

He was speaking after the protests and submission of an appeal by students of Punyakoti Sharada Vidya Ganapathi Vidya Kendra against a newly opened bar and restaurant in Balepuni grama panchayat limits.

“As decided in the meeting, the opening of a bar and restaurant near a Goshale and a school is illegal. Approval has been granted in a hurry without observing the government guidelines and obtaining public opinions. No alcohol can be sold within a radius of 100 meters from a school. It creates problems for conducting school activities and for girls returning home in the evenings. We urge the panchayat to cancel the licence issued. The bar has disrupted the decent students attending school. We will continue our protests in a democratic manner. If our request is not acceded, we will be visiting the minister, the departments and resort to indefinite protests and fast until death. Balepuni grama panchayat has informed that a decision will be taken in the ordinary meeting after discussions. A bar has been opened just 50 meters away from the main door of the school to the north. The government should take action immediately,” he said.

School student Rashmita said that the licence has been issued to the bar in violation of the government guidelines. “The concerned officials should take action in this connection,” she said.

A memorandum was handed over by the students and the school management to Balepuni grama panchayat president Zarina. Police security was provided on the spot.

First off all the authorites must take the management for task n file a case for using these minor children for the protest. One cannot use children as their tool n shield this is an offence. Action is must. The management has an serious concern n you fight it out not the students. Tomorrow you get da grant of few crores n you want give that to children right?? You should have already done your ground work when the construction was coming up n brought the stay order. Its a vicious thought that is wait till the end n then do this tamasha. The bar has to be closed from the school vicinity immediately.

Where's the Bar? Distance? Children need to focus on study and never begin the irreversible habit of drinking alcohol. Even if alcohol is included in the guarantees, it is going to adversely affect your health. It's guaranteed!!!

But why involve children in this legal battle and misguiding them being a bad example. Licence must have been issued to this bar-restaurant during BJP rule. I am sure the local administration will listen to school demand and take appropriate action instead of using students for unnecessarily by skipping thier classes. By the pattern of this issue one can see BJP element in this.

Kangress only increased the tax on alcohol so that people drink less or not to drink at all. Check with your counterpart why they have issued such licenses? You chaddis are good in blaming. All these drama’s are not good. Never involve kids into this situation. School should be working with govt officials to resolve these problems if it is impacted to kids
