Udupi, July 18: “The officials should dispose of applications for various needs of the people as per rules and regulations quickly and in a transparent manner,” said Udupi deputy commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari K.
She was speaking after presiding over the progress review meeting of various government departments held at the deputy commissioner’s office today.
“Government officers should be present during their duty hours and dispose of files within the time frame. Officials should conduct joint surveys of land exempted from deemed forest and separate it from the forest and provide it to people for various purposes such as construction of government buildings,” she said.
“There were drinking water issues during this summer across the district. The officials should begin work to ensure that such problems do not arise in the future. Rainwater harvesting should be taken up on a priority basis. Make sure that the funds released by the government for development in the district are not returned. Officials should implement the projects completely,” she said.
“Officials of mining and geology should ensure that illegal sand mining is prevented. Take suitable action against violations of CRZ regulations. Dangerous trees on the roadsides should be axed. Achieve the goal of planting saplings during the current year. Mescom should axe the tree branches that hinder electric cables. As buildings for Anganwadis cannot be constructed due to lack of land, donors should be contacted. Prevent sale of illicit liquor in villages. The income of the excise department will increase only when supply of liquor from Goa is prevented,” she said.
District panchayat chief executive Prasanna H, additional deputy commissioner Veena B N and district level officers were present.
