Udupi, Feb 24: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, one of Karnataka’s leading comprehensive cancer care centres, marked a significant milestone on Tuesday with the inauguration of its newly established dedicated Operation Theatre and Pediatric Oncology Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit at the Shirdi Saibaba Cancer Centre.
The newly inaugurated Pediatric Oncology BMT unit is equipped with advanced infrastructure, specialized isolation rooms, and infection-control measures designed specifically to meet international standards for bone marrow transplantation. The dedicated oncology operation theatre is tailored to handle complex oncological surgeries with enhanced safety and precision.
The state-of-the-art facilities were inaugurated by Dr Anand Venugopal, chief operating officer, MAHE, Manipal, in the presence of Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, chief operating officer, Teaching Hospitals, MAHE, Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Dr Naveena Kumar AN, head- department of surgical oncology and Dr Vasudeva Bhat K head- department of pediatric oncology.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anand Venugopal highlighted that the addition of these advanced facilities further strengthens the capabilities of the Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre. “With the commissioning of the dedicated Operation Theatre and Pediatric Oncology Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, we are reaching yet another milestone in comprehensive cancer care. Our goal is to ensure that all cancer-related treatments are available under one roof, providing seamless, high-quality, and patient-centric care. This expansion offers a significant advantage to patients, especially children requiring specialized oncology and transplant services,” he said.
Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, chief operating officer, Teaching Hospitals, MAHE, Manipal, emphasized the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and clinical advancement. “The addition of these specialized facilities reflects our continuous effort to enhance clinical outcomes through advanced technology and multidisciplinary expertise.
