Kundapur, Jul 21: “Journalism is a holy field. People believe immensely in media. That is why it has grown to such an extent. Journalists have the huge responsibility of preserving the faith and belief of public in them and take the field forward,” said Rashmi S R, assistant commissioner of Kundapur.
Rashmi was speaking at the Press Day programme organized at Koyakutty Hall, organized jointly by Kundapur taluk working journlaists’ association, journalism department of Bhandarkars’ Arts and Science College and Bhandarkars’ PU College.
Rashmi further said, “When the information about government programmes reach the public in an effective manner, it results in the success of the scheme. Today people believe more in media than officials. The journalism of coastal districts is moving on a strong foundation. Journalists of this region study the news and then publish the same.”
Speaking on the occasion DySP Belliappa said, “Journalists are doing the work of preserving the ethics of journalism. There are plenty of opportunities in the media field. One should make good use of them. When a person reads continuously media will be a success.”
Senior journalists U K Kumarnath and S Janardhan gave special lectures. Nagaraja Rayappanamata, president of the association presided over the function. Principal of Bhandarkars’ College G M Gonda, president of Udupi district working journalists’ association Rajesh Shetty Aleyoor, vice president Vinay Pais, member of silver jubilee committee Jayakara Suvarna and HOD of journalism department of Bhandarkars’ College Sumalatha were present.
Shashidhar Hemmady, former president of Kundapur taluk working journalists’ association welcomed. Sumalatha, HOD of Bhandarkars’ College journalism department, did the introductory speech. Journalist Prashant Pade, read the list of office bearers of Kundapur taluk working journalists’ association. Sponsor of the programme were felicitated.
