Mangaluru: Speaker U T Khader inaugurates 25th Independence Cup football tournament

Mangaluru, Jul 22: Assembly speaker U T Khader set in motion the 25th Independence Cup football tournament at Nehru Maidan Football ground here on Saturday July 22.

He said that sports competitions are helpful to maintain health. The participation of youth in the tournament is a good development, he said.

Mayor Jayananda Anchan, the chief guest congratulated the district football association for regularly holding football tournaments and making youth indulge in sports.

District football association president D M Aslam presided over the programme and gave a keynote address.

Corporator and former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, corporator Abdul Rauf, Shamsuddin Bunder, sports entrepreneur Sharif, U R Academy founder president Umesh Uchil, Yenepoya university physical education director Sujith, K V Association vice president B B Thomas, secretary Hussain Bolar, treasurer Pheroz Ullal, member Abdul Latif Bengre and others were present.

A rally from Nehru Maidan via A B Shetty circle, Hamiltan Rao and Rao circle, Lady Goshen Hospital, clock tower and back to Nehru Maidan was held to create awareness against drugs prior to the hall programme. Hundreds of sports persons took part in it.
