Kundapur: Youth slips at Arasinagundi Falls, goes missing

Kundapur, Jul 24: A youth, native of Shivamogga, who had arrived to watch Arasinagundi Falls at Kollur, fell into it accidentally and got washed away into Sauparnika river on Sunday. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The missing youth is identified as Sharath (23), son of Muniswamy of Bhadravati taluk.

According to the details in the complaint filed by Sharath’s father, he had come to Arasinagundi Falls on Sunday from Bhadravati at around 7.30 am by car. He was standing on the rock near the falls at around 3.30 pm when he accidentally slipped and fell into the falls and got washed away in Sauparnika river and went missing.

Sharath is five feet and four inches tall, well built, oil black complexioned, chisel faced and has black hair. He carried mark of old injury on his left forehead. He speaks Kannada and Tamil languages. He was wearing half pant of blue colour and half sleeves shirt having white and black straps on it.

Eye witnesses said that Sharath's friends were recording a video with Sharath standing atop a stone. He is seen posing and later slipping from the stone down into the falls in the video which has now gone viral. 

Kollur police are investigating further.

    Hope for a Miracle.....But would that person have allowed his child or wife or sibling to go and pose in that slippery rocks like that...most of the time, we caution others, but fail to take it when its our own turn....can you loose life so easily, so much carelessness ?

    So sad.From faraway came to see the falls.But forgot it is rainy season.Very slippery on the rocks.Hope he knows swimming.Pray he may be found soon.

    May his soul RIP. People don't understand how dangerous Beaches and river are. Just for few likes on social media they risk their lives. In my opinion no one cares about your social media post. So, there is no point is risking your lives.
