Kundapur, July 24: “India obtained independence by means of peace and non-violence. People live here in peace and harmony. However, works are in progress to create unrest among us. The incident that happened at Manipur has made the country bow its head in shame. The video of a brutal incident that occurred on May 4 became viral just the other day. Why didn't the police and the government, who were aware of the incident not take action on time? Why did the government at the Centre remain indifferent?” asked progressive thinker Shashidhar Hemmadi.

He was speaking at the protest meeting held on Monday evening to condemn the incident at Manipur under the leadership of Sahabalve Kundapura, Dasamsa Taluk unit, Kundapura, Samudaya Kundapura and other organisations.

“There was barbarism against a tribe in Manipur. There are several reasons for the BJP-led government and Pariwar not adopting a strong stand against the incident. More than 5,000 houses were torched during the Manipur friction. More than 25 churches were damaged. The failure of the government is clear in this,” he said.

Candles were lit in the protests. Judith Mendonca, Rafik Gangolli, Manju Kalavara, Vinod Crasta, Vikas Hegde and others were present.
