Udupi, Jul 25: Superintendent of police (SP) Hakay Akshay Machhindra on Tuesday July 25, issued a detailed clarification about the incident which is alleged to have taken place at a private college where was claimed that three students had captured videos of their fellow students by placing hidden cameras in the college washroom.
Addressing media, the SP said, “There has been no trace of any usage of hidden camera or any such device. Rumours are also being spread that such photos and videos are being used for blackmailing. Neither we nor our sources are aware of any such activity. There is no trace about the video being circulated on social media too. Some are interlinking issues of some other places with the incident of Udupi. Clarification has been issued through our social media handles. A state of confusion will be created among the public by sharing unverified information on social media platforms. The video has not been circulated on anywhere. In case anyone finds the video, they can bring it to our notice.”
Speaking about the police visit to Rashmi Samanth, a twitter user and native of Udupi, he said, “We wanted to verify the authenticity of the twitter account through which the tweet was made. There was no other intention in the visit.
“No FIR or complaint has been registered. There is no clue about the incident on social media platform to file a suo moto complaint. The college management has taken disciplinary action on their level. The victims have also informed the college management that it was made for fun and later the videos were deleted,” he said.
The SP also requested the public not to share any unverified things in relation to the incident on any of the social media platforms. He also requested the public to bring to the notice of the police department if they come across any related information.
