Udupi: Rural Games Mark 'Aatidonji Dina' Celebrations

Udupi, Aug 1: "Elders had practices, traditions and customs out of necessity. Due to changing times, the traditions and customs have been limited to mere celebrations," said ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary.

He was speaking during ‘Aatidonji Dina’, a day of celebration during ‘Aati’ season which was held at Uggelbettu Private Lower Primary School, near here, on Sunday July 31.  It was jointly organized by Commander Sports and Arts Club, Uggelbettu, Sri Rama Bhajan Mandir, Uggelbettu, and self-help-groups.

"Although the traditions and culture are losing significance in modern times, they have to be fostered since they are scientifically proven," added Poojary.

Heroor Jaru was the resource person who explained the significance of celebration of Aatidonji Dina. Uppoor gram panchayat president Praveen Kumar, member Ramesh Karkera, Commander Sports and Arts Club president Mahesh Kotian, Sri Rama Bhajan Mandal women’s committee president Janaki S Bangera, Sumati, and Jyoti D Bangera were present on the occasion.

Local veteran Soma Poojary inaugurated the rural games. Uppoor youth club office-bearers Vasant Uppoor, Yogish N Ganiga, and Uppoor Lower Primary School headmaster Surendra Shetty oversaw the rural games competitions.

Hundreds of locals participated in the games. Harish Acharya welcomed the gathering and Dayanand Karkera compered the programme.
