Udupi, Jul 29: “The MLA of Udupi is playing politics instead of working on the development activities. They never spoke about problems in Udupi, industrialisation, providing employment to youths in the state assembly,” said Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan.
Addressing media on Saturday July 29, he said, “If the police authorities are not working to provide justice to the victim in the college washroom video case, they can protest against them. But the police are doing their duty. No police officials have been transferred after the formation of the new government. The police officials who worked during the BJP government are investigating the case, but protesting against them by the BJP is condemnable. They are trying to build name and fame by bringing communal disturbance in Udupi.
“The police officials have worked according to the law. No complaint was filed and that was the reason for the delay in investigation of the case. A suo moto case is filed now and the investigation is on. Blaming the police department is not right. The state government will always work to provide justice,” he said.
On the protest by the ABVP, he said, “There was no necessity of protest by the ABVP after the investigation began. Even after Khushbu Sundar, the member of NCW visited Udupi and stated that the investigation is taking place and there is no evidence for crime, they continued their protest.
“The home minister has requested to allow the police officials to do their duty. The case will be investigated and if the accused is found guilty, they will be punished,” he said.
Ramesh Kanchan, president Udupi block Congress, talking about the BJP leaders said, “If the BJP do not trust the investigation process, let them talk to the police officials. Do not politicize the incident. Here they are trying to play politics and not helping the victim.”
