Sullia, Jul 30: The Madikeri police have apprehended the third accused in the Usman murder case, which occurred two weeks ago at Kudrepaaya in Chembu village, Madikeri taluk.

According to the police, the knife used in the fatal attack on Usman was supplied to his brothers, Rafiq and Sattar, by Mubarak, the son of Mayeen Kutty and their relative residing in Arantodu.

Mubarak (37), who had been residing near Sullia Junior College, used to operate a bakery in Bengaluru. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, he closed down the bakery and moved to Arantodu.

It was there that he possessed a sharp knife typically used for cutting bread. As per their request, he had handed over the knife to his uncles on the day before the murder.

On July 27, Madikeri CI Umesh Uppalike arrested Mubarak in Sullia. He was subsequently presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
