Siddaramaiah arrives in Udupi, visits sea erosion-affected areas

Udupi, Aug 1: Chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah visited Udupi for the first time after assuming the position of chief minister of Karnataka on Tuesday August 1.

Siddaramaiah visited sea erosion-affected area near Padubidri. He said that widespread damage has occurred in the district due to rain and cyclone.

He said, “Udupi district has got 98 km of sea shore. Sea erosion occurs frequently. A permanent solution is not yet found. I have held discussions to find out a permanent solution.”

Over the college washroom video case he said, “Police have filed a suo moto case with regards to the washroom video issue. DySP is investigating the matter. Neither the affected girl students nor the college administration has filed a case. Let the investigation report arrive.”

Over BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel’s statement that the Congress government is a ‘Jihadi’ government, he said, “Nalin is a joker. I need not react to his statement.”

The CM furtehr said, “The loss occurred due to rain in Udupi amounts up to Rs 35 crore. Officials of the district have given me this information. Money is available in PD account of the government. I will speak to the financial department and release more funds if required.”

Ministers Mankala Vaidya, Udupi district in-charge minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, deputy commissioner Vidyakumari, MLAs Gurme Suresh Shetty and former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake were present.

Siddaramaiah also visited the D Devraj Urs backward class post-metric women’s hostel and interacted with the hostel inmates. He even asked them to enrol their mothers for Gruha Lakshmi scheme and to avail Yuvanidhi scheme facility after completing their degree education.

The hostel students also asked for the sanctioned free laptops to be given to them at the earliest.

Looking at the hostel parliament details put up on the notice board, CM Siddaramaiah, on a lighter note asked, “Who is the leader of opposition among you?”
