Udupi's education, health index collapse annoys CM Siddaramaiah; officers taken to task

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD/EP)

Udupi, Aug 1: Chief minister Siddaramaiah expressed his displeasure over the state of Udupi district's health index, which has fallen from first place in 2015 to 18th position. The increase in maternal and child deaths was cited as a major concern during the district level progress review meeting held at the deputy commissioner's office. He also expressed his ire at the decline in education index as well in the district.

Siddaramaiah emphasized that officers must prioritize the needs of the people and not engage in politics during their work. He warned that indifference and negligence will not be tolerated and officers should conduct regular inspections on-site rather than just working from their offices.

During the meeting, various issues were discussed, including compensation for rain damages, support for farmers, construction of bridges, and the decline in education standards. The Chief Minister urged authorities to take effective action against potholes, accidents, and cybercrimes.

In response to the health index decline, Siddaramaiah tasked the district health officer with restoring Udupi to its former top position, warning of suspension if improvements are not made. Similarly, education officers were warned of permanent removal if there is no improvement in district education rankings.

Speaking in a news conference after the meeting, Siddaramaiah emphasized the differences between Congress and BJP and highlighted the importance of finding permanent solutions for issues like sea erosion. The CM also stressed the need for progress before the next meeting to avoid potential suspensions for concerned officers.

District in-charge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, minister Mankala Vaidya, and various other officials were present during the meeting.

You have a point. DK and Udupi used to top the results. Today North Karnataka is indulging in blatant copying, consequently they are topping the chart. Yes, they voted you into power. Question paper leaks all happen there and there only. Data can say anything you want. But if you want mass copying in DK, you are in wrong place. For that it does not matter if you are CM or not, we will call spade a spade.

Udupi and mloreans also voted for congress. Only religious bhakhts voted for bjp. Hence we can see why udupi and mangalore are losing its sheen over time. If this communal tensions continue, there may come a day when udipi and mlore will rank lower in education as well as health in coming years.
