No funds to MLAs but Rs 1.05 cr grant for EX-PM Rajiv Gandhi's bronze statue in K'taka stirs debate

Bengaluru, Aug 1 (IANS): Karnataka Congress government’s decision to build a bronze statue of late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a cost of Rs 1.05 crore here, has stirred a debate in the party.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and DyCM and state party President D.K. Shivakumar has publicly stated that there is a severe crunch of funds to implement five guarantee schemes in the state.

The MLAs have been repeatedly asked not to seek funds for developmental activities in their constituencies. Instead, they have been told to go to the people and ensure proper implementation of five free schemes.

Sources in the Congress say that it is crucial to implement all five guarantee schemes ahead of Lok Sabha elections as it is planned to win most of the MP seats in the state and give a message to the country about the commitment of the party.

Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had given advertisements in the newspapers on July 28 for tenders towards construction of a bronze statue of late PM Rajiv Gandhi. There is already a statue of Rajiv Gandhi and the Congress government wants to replace it with a bronze statue.

The BJP had charged that the Congress government had stopped the work of a statue of Bhuvaneshwari Devi considered as the deity of the land and called tender for a bronze statue of Rajiv Gandhi.

As per the sources, the tussle for power in the Congress government is increasing by the day and the leadership is involved in impressing the high command.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy Shivakumar want to keep the high command happy at any cost, sources in Congress reveal.

The simmering differences within the party are coming out after two months of rule in the state. Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad and Minister for Home Dr. G. Parameshwara’s challenging statements of CM Siddaramaiah’s

leadership have given indication on this.

The alleged letter by more than 10 MLAs about not supporting them and treating them with respect is also

becoming a headache for the party.

Despite, what he had given is absolute rubbish in almost all the parameters. He messed with Pakistan and prolonged Kalisthan issue, Kashmir unrest and massacre of Kashmiri Hindu pandits started in his time. Regarding Sri Lanka, he's fighting an unknown battle with known cause and unknown target. Forces doesn't know whether they want to kill Sri Lankan Tamils or train them. Millions of dollars, thousands of lives including his own life is sacrificed for pointless battle by interfering unnecessarily.Ram Mandir issue is purely made political by Rajeev Gandhi himself. In order to please Hindu community after shah bano case, he want to appease Hindus by opening ram Mandir gates and by live telecast of the whole episode at prime time, he had given oxygen to already burning Hindutva issue and political tool to BJP. SO is it really required?

I salute Rajiv Gandhi, he sacrificed his life for the country fighting terrorism. He brought IT revolution to India. But will Rahul and Priyanka approve building a statue, I think they would prefer bringing IT revolution to small towns and villages with the same money. Similarly Maniben Patel daughter of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel would not have approved of her father's statue, I have treated her many years back and she was a very simple and down to earth person.

No doubt Rajiv Gandhi has done good work. We don't need toll or tallest status of any politicians in Karnataka State(KS). If the federal govt has built tallest statue means need not follow that. If the politician has done good work he will be remembered for ever. Instead, use the funds for the development of downtrodden in education etc. 1.05Cr is a big amount of tax collected to be shared to the people of KS in return and many lives can be saved in the current flood disaster.

Wasting money is wrong in principle. But it is very small amount compared to BJP's wastage for Sardar Patel's statue or Mayavati's own statues in different places in UP and probably Shivaji statue in Mumbai. These politicians should be made to understand that statues dont come under development and merely a channel to drain the states resources.

Read history why Rajiv gandhi was killed. Don't make anyone martyr without knowing fact. It's biggest blunder on his part to send Indian military to Srilanka to kill LTTE. We have suffered a lot because of this. Eventhough our Army suffered a lot, Lanka never acknowledged that sacrifice instead it was with Pakistan n China all along. Same like UPA, Rajiv Congress lost elections on corruption. Sha bhano case was another's historical blunder which still affecting community.

Advancement in science and technology was a worldwide phenomenon during the 1980s and 90s. In India Colour TVs and computers came during during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure, in Narasimha’s time there emerged private TV channels, cable networks, phone connections were expedited, etc., during Vajpayee’s tenure we saw internet, emails, ordinary mobile phones and now is the era of smart phones. But political parties and their governments have taken credit for such developments which were taking place all over the world.
