Siddaramaiah to meet PM Modi on Aug 3, request supply of rice for free scheme

Bengaluru, Aug 2 (IANS): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday for the first time after assuming power in the state, according to an official statement.

As per sources, the Karnataka Chief Minister is likely to request the PM for supply of rice by central government agencies for the Anna Bhagya, the party's flagship free rice scheme under which his government is planning to provide 10 kg of rice for all members of BPL families.

He will also seek an increase of funds from the central government and additional funds for the irrigation projects, the Jal Jeevan Mission, MNREGS.

The Chief Minister is also expected to seek Rs 5,495 crores interim relief for the state as per the recommendation of 15th Financial Commission and also discuss about the state not getting its judicious share in the GST. He will also discuss the major road projects in the state and demand for additional grants during his meeting, sources stated.

Siddaramaiah will also be attending the key meeting called by the Congress high command on Wednesday in New Delhi. DyCM and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar and 50 representatives from the state Congress including cabinet ministers, MLAs and senior leaders are invited.

Shivakumar maintained that the meeting is called for making strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and fixing the responsibilities for various leaders. The high command will also review implementation of guarantee schemes in the state. However, sources say that the party high command is worried about simmering differences cropping up within the party, barely two months after taking over the power, and the is going to give a strong message to the factions within Congress not to indulge in infighting.

Funny how easy it to make promises for free everything and then slyly make the Centre give the funds for Rice ... After which the uneducated poor ignorant masses will assume was given by Siddaramaih. It is disgusting to get credit for something done by an arch enemy. Use your own party funds allocated to you to give the people what you promised. MAKING PROMISES IS SO EASY... KEEPING YOUR WORD IS SO DIFFICULT right? Don't con the people and let down your supporters. Else you are no different from Mr. Modi... Mr. CM.

What a joke.... it's public tax payers money which Center is using to give the benefits and not any political party or personal funds. Karnataka is the second highest tax payer to the centre after Maharastra. In return what Karnataka gets back is just miniscule, therefore, our CM has every right to ask for more share of benefits.

THAT MEANS NEARLY TWENTY LAKH CRORES -- written off -- most wilful defaulters -- SMALL BORROWERS ARE HARASSED -- MANY HAVE COMMITTED SUICIDE -- NAMES APPEARS IN NEWS PAPERS FOR LOANS OF A FEW LAKHS OR LESS --- Some argue it is not write off -- but recoverable at branch level -- even this does not happen as recoveries are less than 15 % -- Can check MONEY LIFE articles -- --- ALSO ABG SHIPYARD RECENT EXAMPLE OF Rs 22,000 crores fraud --

...there is dire of need rice & other food items in Manipur..in karnatka no one asked extra Rice..its your party promise..you didnt asked Modi while promising . Modi Govt providing 5 kg rice, Monthly 2thsnd to farmers, Fertliser subsidy , Gas subsidy..which is more than what you have promised in 5 Guarantees..reality is before reaching your Guarantee for few beneficiaries (with all conditions), you have increased prices of all basic items for all citizens.

The impact of the guarantee scheme is hitting on the rear slowly and steadily without any solace. Last week DyCM admitted they are no funds for MLAs at least for a year . So the MLAs have to convince their constituencies that there wont be any development. In fact this is national news. Also , the Center is already providing 5Kilos rice . To win elections, you announced 10kilos without consenting. So for the additional 5 Kilos you are blaming and bashing the Center for not providing . But again you have to go and request. So its obvious that all the grants and additional funds etc are just to finance the freebies. How did you even promise in the first place.

Modi did not lose badly. It was Bommai and team. In fact it was RaGa who lost badly against Modi and had to flee to Kerala to win from a safe constituency. Even Siddu for that matter did not contest from his own backyard ,but his sons safe constituency.
