Mangaluru: Special children need to be treated as equals - U T Khader in St Agnes Special School

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 3: Special Children, who are God's special creation, need to be treated equally, said U T Khader, Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly and MLA, during a felicitation program organized by the management, staff, and students of Mangaluru's first school for children in need, St Agnes Special School in Bendore.

In recognition of MLA U T Khader's outstanding contributions and recent award as the "Great Son of India," the felicitation program was arranged on July 31, 2023. The program began with a prayer song and welcome dance performed by the school children. U T Khader was then felicitated by dignitaries on the dais, including school staff and benefactors.

Addressing the audience, U T Khader expressed his pride in the school's achievements over the last 50 years and emphasized the importance of treating special children equally, providing them with inclusive education and support from society. He offered his continued support to the school and its noble mission.

During the event, the Dakshina Kannada Private Bus Operators Association president, Jayasheela Adyanthaya, presented free bus passes for children traveling to the school by city buses.

About St Agnes Special School

Giving a brief history of St Agnes Special School, it was founded in 1970 by Sister Maria Jyothi AC, a compassionate member of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation. The school started with only four children and has since grown to accommodate around 300 students with its motto "In Love we Grow."

As the first school of its kind in the district of Mangaluru and Udupi, St Agnes Special School has played a crucial role in rehabilitating hundreds of children with disabilities through its various programs, including Early intervention, Academic, Pre-Vocational, Vocational, Home-Science, and Computer Training.

With St Agnes Special School completing 53 years of service, the school continues to seek support from the public and well-wishers to carry on their vital work. Those willing to contribute can contact the school office at 0824 244 3376 or Sr Shruthi, the principal, on 9741150669.

The school urges people to remember the spirit of giving and invites donations to make a difference in the lives of these special children. As true neighbors and caregivers, let us support St Agnes Special School in their mission to nurture and educate children with special needs.
