Mangaluru: K S Hegde Medical Academy trains KSRP staff on first aid, life support skills

Mangaluru, Aug 4: The department of orthopaedics, K S Hegde Medical Academy - Constituent of Nitte DU, observed  and celebrated ‘Bone & Joint Day 2023' on Friday, August 4.

Going on lines of the prestigious Indian Orthopaedic Association and under the aegis of Karnataka Orthopaedic Association & Canara Orthopaedic Society, the theme for this time’s event was 'Each one - Train one - save one'.

As part of the programme, as many as 95 participants including 67 personnel of the Karnataka State Reserve Police and 28 students were trained on first aid and basic life support skills.

Commander of 7th Battalion of KSRP Shri Prasad B M, head of department of Orthopaedics Dr Vikram Shetty, chief coordinator of NU- MEDism Dr Gayathri graced the dias on the occasion.

Shri Prasad B M, in his talk, emphasised the importance of knowing BLS skills for all the police personnel as it was the need of the hour. He also shared his past experiences on such training programmes being organised to develop skills of the police personnel and expressed gratitude towards the organisers.

Dr Vikram Shetty also briefed the gathering regarding the idea and thought process behind organising such an event, and also assured complete support with training resources in the coming future for any such events. The force of KSRP remains to be the first line contact in times of mass mal-occurances, and it is of utmost importance that they be trained with immediate first point contact life saving skills.

The programme concluded after a practical session for all the participants on administering quality CPR on the mannequins with special case scenarios. Dr Gayathri and Dr Shruthi were part of the training team.

Dr Shreyas Shetty and Dr Vinay Sherlekar were part of the organising team.
