Mangalore, Aug 3: In a complaint filed by Kalpana, resident of a residential complex located at sixth cross of Kodialguthu in the city on Tuesday August 2, a housemaid named Poojita (18), has been accused of stealing ornaments belonging to the family and running away. The value of the gold ornaments so stolen has been put at Rs 1.85 lac.

It is said that a teenager, who identified herself as Poojita, spoke to Kalpana’s family at Ankola, when the family members were returning by train to the city after visiting temples in Goa.  Poojita told the family that she was poor, and she wanted to work for a family and continue her college education in Mangalore, and sought their assistance. Kalpana provided her address to the girl. When Poojita contacted her over phone on June 5, Kalpana agreed to accommodate Poojita at her residence.

Poojita succeeded in winning over the confidence of the household through her disciplined work. On July 12, she reportedly left home on the pretext of visiting the city. She never came back, and the family said, they believed that she had gone to her native place.

Kalpana got to know that her ornaments had been stolen, after opening the almirah on August 2 for visiting a temple here. Barke police have registered a case and begun investigation.
