Udupi: CID intensifies probe into college washroom video case; scene recreated, CCTVs checked

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD/MS)

Udupi, Aug 10: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has escalated its investigation into the unsettling washroom video controversy that has gripped a paramedical college in the city.

CID officials, led by SP Raghavendra and DySP Anjumala Nayak, meticulously probed the incident at the college premises, accompanied by their team. The victimized students were present to provide their statements, and crucial evidence was gathered.

The Bengaluru Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory also joined the effort, facilitating on-the-spot verification by expert personnel. Fingerprints were meticulously collected from the scene of the incident.

College staff members were subjected to inquiries, and their statements were formally recorded while ensuring the anonymity of the victimized girls.

For investigative purposes, a plastic doll was employed to recreate the incident, symbolizing the seriousness of the inquiry. This doll was transported to the college in a police vehicle and positioned at the site of the occurrence. There are indications that a recreation of the incident using the plastic doll might take place on Thursday.

The investigation, which commenced at 10 am on Wednesday, continued until 2 pm, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the inquiry.

The allegedly victimized girl, while yet to file an official complaint regarding the alleged atrocity, holds a pivotal role in the ongoing CID investigation. A separate CID team reviewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from cameras in the vicinity, which had been provided by the district police.

Three mobile phones sent to Hyderabad FSL

The Forensic Science Laboratory report for the three confiscated mobile phones belonging to the Muslim girl students remains pending. These iPhones have been sent to the Hyderabad FSL. The absence of the primary video evidence has contributed to the lack of clarity surrounding the controversy.

Meanwhile, CID ADGP Manish Karbikar arrived in Udupi and convened a crucial meeting at Udupi's Tourist Hall. He engaged in discussions with Udupi SP Hakay Akshay Machindra and CID SP Raghavendra Hegde. The ADGP aimed to gather comprehensive insights into the case during this session.

CID DySP Anjumala appointed investigating officer: ADGP Manish Karbikar

In his statement, CID ADGP Manish Karbikar remarked, "I have received information about the incident in Udupi. The investigation report conducted by the Udupi police has been obtained. I have discussed this with police and CID officials. What further investigation process should be conducted was discussed. CID DySP Anjumala has been appointed as the investigating officer. The investigation will be supervised by CID SP Raghavendra Hegde. The report of the forensic science laboratory will be handed over to the investigating officer. After the investigation of the case, we will give the next report to the court. CID investigation continues in Udupi. We take three mobile FSL reports as part of the investigation."

For the past few days, the CID has established its base in Udupi, indicating the gravity of the investigation at hand.

College Management has solved amicably by telling the three girls to write imposition 100 times that they will not do this next time. I remember writing impositions when i was in KG class but for higher class students these methods were not used.

Political interference was unwarranted in this case. It is below a national party’s caliber to meddle in such issues, which is the work of the law enforcing authorities. As a result comments in this forum too are politically biased.

Nothing will emerge from this. Any investigation of crime scene has to be done immediately otherwise phones may be replaced , Fingerprints may be erased. Victims will be threatened. So many things happen.

This will be like a successfully running Tulu drama with lot of thrill and flavor... Finally it will remain just another drama... Nothing will be proved useful as there is nothing to prove here... Waste of time for CID, courts and college itself.... All drama initiated at the behest of great bajapa showing to be true custodian of Hindutwa.... If nothing comes out the local MLA , MP and provocative speakers like borewell must be charge sheeted and sued for social nonsense....
