Unique: Five from different generations of single family from Mangaluru open MSSC accounts

Mangaluru, Aug 11: The Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSSC) 2023 scheme is a significant step by the Government of India to promote women’s financial inclusion and financial independence.

This scheme was introduced with effect from April 1, 2023 and will be available till March 31, 2025. The minimum investment required under this scheme is Rs 1,000 and can be invested up to a maximum of Rs. 2 lacs. The rate of interest is 7.5% which is compounded quarterly and will be paid after the end of two years from the date of opening the account.

Any number of accounts can be opened in the name of woman and girl child separately with a time gap of three months between the existing account and the new account.

Recently, an Aadhaar enrollment and updation camp was initiated at Kinnigoli post office by Mangaluru postal division on August 2 and 3. During this event, a special awareness camp on Mahila Samman Savings Certificate Scheme was organised by the Mangaluru division.

In this event an unique achievement was made. The MSSC accounts for five women from different generations of a family were opened on the spot. The accounts were opened in the name of Seethu (103 years), Sundari (72 years), Yamuna (50 years), Pavithra (33 years) and Baby Dithya (3 years).

India Post reached five generations by opening a MSSC account for each of them and it is a proud moment for Mangaluru postal division. Sudhakar Mallya senior superintendent and Dinesh P, deputy superintendent congratulated the family which opted for the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate for all generations.

Mulki Press Club, Rotary Club, Lions Club and Inner Wheel Club had conducted this Aadhaar camp in association with the post office.

Mangaluru postal division has has opened 8,314 accounts till August 3 and bagged the first place in Karnataka state. The women in the district have shown keen interest in this product and they are proudly opening MSSC accounts in post offices.
