Udupi, Aug 16: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, unveiled an advanced AI-enabled 3Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, marking a significant milestone in medical imaging. The inauguration of this cutting-edge technology took place today, graced by the presence of distinguished guests.

Dr Ranjan R Pai, chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG), inaugurated the state-of-the-art 3Tesla MRI. Joining the event as honored guests were Dr Sudharshan Ballal, chairman of Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd; Lt Gen (Dr) M. D. Venkatesh, vice chancellor of MAHE, Manipal; and V P Thirumalai, senior vice president and business head of Medikabazaar, Mumbai. The program was presided over by Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE, Manipal. On the dais, alongside the esteemed guests, were Dr Padmaraj Hegde, dean of KMC Manipal; Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent; and Dr Prakashini K, professor and head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis. Notable attendees included C G Muthana, COO of MAHE Manipal, and Dr Anand Venugopal, COO of Teaching Hospital-MAHE, Manipal, alongside senior officials from MAHE Manipal.

 

During the event, V P Thirumalai conveyed his enthusiasm and commendation for the launch of the 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. This advanced MRI machine significantly enhances the hospital's medical imaging capabilities, reflecting its dedication to cutting-edge healthcare.

In his speech, Dr Sudharshan Ballal noted that Manipal attracts patients from various parts of Karnataka for medical treatment. The inauguration of the 3 Tesla MRI holds dual significance – not only does it serve academic purposes, but it also extends invaluable benefits to patients from rural districts. This technology eliminates the need for patients to travel to larger cities for advanced diagnoses and treatments.

Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh emphasized that MAHE's commitment to excellence in medical education finds embodiment in the integration of innovative technology like the 3 Tesla MRI machine. This equipment bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, empowering students to engage with medical imaging advancements and preparing them for the dynamic healthcare landscape. In his presidential address, Dr H S Ballal highlighted that the inauguration of the 3 Tesla MRI machine pays a heartfelt tribute to Dr TMA Pai's enduring vision. It serves as a reminder of Dr. Pai's constant encouragement to push boundaries, embrace innovation, and deliver unparalleled education to students. In the realm of medical education, the journey towards excellence is boundless. It's not just about keeping pace with the latest advancements; it's about leading the way.

The uMR 780 MRI offers unparalleled precision in medical imaging, boasting a robust 3Tesla field strength that translates to superior image quality. Its versatile techniques, including diffusion-weighted imaging and functional MRI, have applications in neuroimaging, cardiovascular assessment, and musculoskeletal evaluation. Despite factors like cost and scan time, it significantly enhances diagnostics and treatment planning, rendering it indispensable in both healthcare and research.

Dr Prakashini K, professor and head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis, provided an insightful overview of the new MRI Machine and the department's evolution. Dr Rajgopal K V, professor of the Department of Radiodiagnosis, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, while Dr Priya Jayaraj, associate professor of the Department of Radiodiagnosis, proposed a vote of thanks and expertly conducted the proceedings as the master of ceremony.
