Mangaluru, Aug 18: A youth, native of Kadaba, who had gone to Saudi Arabia on employment was trapped by bank account hackers and is languishing presently in a prison in Riyadh. His family members have urged union government for the release of the innocent youth.
Chandrashekhar, a resident of Moojuru under Aithur village of Kadaba, is the victim of this bank account scam. The complete information on his ordeal was given by his family friend Sridhara Gowda and NCEF secretary of Mangaluru Shashidhar Shetty on Thursday to the media.
Chandrashekhar was working in Bengaluru and as promotion was sent to Saudi Arabia for company work in 2022. He was working for Alfanar Ceramics in Saudi Arabia. In November 2022, he visited a shop in Riyadh to purchase a mobile phone and SIM card and gave two thumb impressions on an application. A week later, Chandrashekhar received a message for his new telephone number in Arabic. Chandrashekhar opened the same. After two days, he received a call and information about the SIM card was sought. When asked for OTP, Chandrashekhar provided the same. A week later, Saudi police arrested Chandrashekar.
Without the knowledge of Chandrashekhar, hackers had opened an account in his name in a bank in Saudi Arabia. An amount of 22000 Riyals was credited to the account of Chandrashekhar and was transferred immediately to another account by hackers. The woman, who lost money, raised complaint with the police. The police saw that the account is in the name of Chandrashekhar and arrested him.
Chandrashekhar’s marriage was fixed in January. When the marriage preparations were on, he was arrested in Saudi Arabia. Now he is in prison for eight months. His friend collected Rs 10 lac and gave the same to the lawyer in Saudi Arabia. But Chandrashekhar is still not released. Though the matter was brought to the notice of the external affairs ministry through MP Shobha Karandlaje, no progress is made in the case of Chandrashekhar. Now the family members are trying to put pressure on the union government through other people’s representatives, organizations and civilians.
