Udupi, Aug 19: A workshop on photography was held for journalism students under the aegis of Udupi district working journalists association under the cooperation of Rajata Mahotsava Samithi and Patrika Bhavan Samithi at IMA Bhavan, Brahmagiri on Saturday August 19. The workshop was sponsored by South Kanara Photographers Association Udupi zone.
Udupi SP Akshay Hakay said that journalists should report considering the sensitivity of the news without the intention of increasing the readers. He said, “Only the news presented in front of people understanding its truth, seriousness and depth can provide justice.
“There is no boundary for social media. Anybody can write anything in it. There are both truth and falsehood rumours in it. Some people speak about it without knowing the reality. It harms society and humanity. This is the difference between the media and social media. We should make news after knowing the truth.
“A photograph is equivalent to a thousand words. Besides technology and art, the philosophy of the photographer is important in it. Journalism has the capacity to think in all angles, with social
concern and constructive criticism,” he said.
An exhibition of old pictures and cameras was inaugurated by Canara Photographers association Udupi zone president Janardhan Kodavoor. Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, the president of the sangha chaired the workshop.
Udayavani photographer Astro Mohan inaugurated the photography workshop. The film workshop was inaugurated by Mangaluru Vijaya Karnataka senior assistant editor Susheelendra Kadupadi. Indian Federation of working journalists’ national committee member Arun Kumar
Shirur, Rajata Mahotsava samithi chief secretary Jayakar Suvarna, Udupi Patrikartara Bhavana samithi convener Ajith Aradi were present.
Chief secretary of the sangha, Nazir Polya welcomed, Treasurer Umesh Marpalli rendered a vote of thanks. Journalist Subhash Chandra Vagle compered the programme. Udupi Ajjarakadu women’s first grade college, Udupi, Udupi MGM College, Karkala MPM College and Bhandarkar’s college journalism students took part.
The exhibition of old cameras and still films drew attention. Journalists Jayakara Suvarna and Pramod Suvarna displayed their 40 year old camera. Old twin lens reflex camera, digital camera, VHS and Mini DVi video cameras and DSLR cameras were on display.
Photographs by members of the sangha Astro Mohan, Janardhan Kodavoor, Subhashchandra Vagle, Arunachal Hebbar, Nazir Polya, Umesh Marpalli, Rama Ajekar, Harish Katpady and Ashwath Acharya were on display.
