Mangaluru: Police raid illegal sand den, seize goods worth Rs 1 crore

Mangaluru, Aug 20: ACP south Dhanya N Nayak and her team of police personnel traced an illegal sand storage den at Idya on the banks of Phalguni river near Ulaibettu and confiscated 10 tipper trucks, a bulldozer and a JCB worth Rs 1 crore.

Acting on definite information, ACP and her team, along with Kankanady rural police and local panchayat officials raided the spot. However, the truck drivers and labourers managed to escape through nearby farmlands.

The police seized the sand that was stored illegally along with the vehicles. The raid was conducted as per the orders of city police commissioner Kuldip Kumar Jain.

    There are two contractors who are set up construction site near the Gurpur existing Bridge. These contractors are mining the sand from the river and using it for their construction without paying any penny. Looks like local administration is silent may big payment is already gone to Nalin Kumar Kateel, Rajesh Naik and Nitin Gadkari while awaring the NH project.
