Mangaluru, Aug 22: The highly anticipated Manipal School’s Tirangaa took place on August 19 at the Marena Sports Complex in Attavar. This annual event never fails to ignite excitement among participants and the audience. This year's Tirangaa commemorated India's 77th year of independence, brought to life through art, craft, music, and dance. The theme of the event - 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' (My Land, My Country), resonated with patriotism. In addition, students also demonstrated their quizzing prowess through an inter-house quiz competition and exhibited their spelling abilities in a competition hosted by QShala.

The event commenced with a warm welcome delivered by Imaad from Grade XI, followed by a captivating dance performance by students from Grade X. The chief guest Sandhya D Nayak, assistant professor, English department at St Agnes College, Mangaluru, inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Joining her in this significant moment were the principal Anuradha Shivaram, PTA president Sachin KJ, vice president Sunitha Furtado, and head of the social science department Mallika Harish.

During her inaugural address, Sandhya D Nayak congratulated the school on its unique initiative and underscored the significance of music and dance in our lives. She motivated the participants to maintain their high spirits and highlighted the importance of strong communication skills in language.

The principal delivered an inspiring address, urging students to uphold their high spirits. Sairam and Laasya from grade XI adeptly hosted the program as comperes. Grade X students, in collaboration with committee members, orchestrated the programme with meticulous organisation. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a gracious vote of thanks expressed by Pratham Pai.

The competition encompassed different categories for Nursery to grade 5, including dance and fancy dress. Their performances brought to life the stories of freedom fighters. For grades 6-11, the categories expanded to poster making, singing, and dance. Each presentation vividly celebrated the nation's remarkable journey since independence, nurturing patriotism in the hearts of the audience. The panel of judges consisted of distinguished figures: Deepthi Bekal, Pallavi S Nayak, Sathvika Rai, and Prerana.

Concurrently, an intra-school spelling bee competition was arranged for students from grades 1 to 11, categorised into three levels: Sub-junior for grades 1-3, Junior for grades 3-7, and senior for grades 8-11. The primary objective was to provide students a platform to enhance their vocabulary through learning diverse spellings and their pronunciations. The event, titled 'Spell-buzz 2023,' was skilfully conducted by a team of experts from QShala, renowned for their innovative quiz designs for various organisations and corporate entities. The competition included a variety of rounds such as Word Nerd, Peck and Pick, Jumbo, Knock Out, and Anagrams.

‘Brain Buzz’, Manipal School's first inter-house quiz competition, centred on the theme ‘India: Then and Now’. Following multiple rounds of selection and elimination, the top six teams emerged as finalists. The grand finals took place on August 18, at MCODS. Notably, the quiz masters for this event was Grade X students Ira Jain and Rishabh Naik.
