Udupi: Workshop on ‘Data Science and Machine Learning’ held at SMVITM

Udupi, Aug 26: The department of artificial intelligence & data science and artificial intelligence & machine learning engineering of SMVITM jointly organized a two-day hands-on workshop on ‘Data Science and Machine Learning’ recently in the institute premises.

The workshop was started with an inspiring address by Prof Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal of the institution, who said that machine learning, artificial intelligence are transforming the digital world and revolutionizing the digital world. He stressed on the importance and relevance of multi-disciplinary applicability of data science and machine Learning. He emphasized that students need to think about career aspects in the field of data science and machine learning.

Nagaraja Rao, in-charge head, department of AI & DS and AI & ML engineering welcomed the gathering and gave the insights about the training programme, importance of conducting such programmes for the benefit of the students.

In these two days, students learnt fundamentals of machine learning, basics of python programming, data pre-processing, model evaluation, feature selection, ensemble learning, introduction to neural networks etc. Throughout these two days, a series of interactive sessions and hands-on tutorials were conducted by alumni Shrutha, Vikram, Yajnesh, Vishwas, Chandana and Shridhar.

Abhishek Shetty, 2nd year Data Science, invoked the blessings from the Almighty. Ananya A Shetty of 2nd year data science, compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks. A total of 55 students from both the branches took part in the training programme.
