Beltangady, Aug 27: Police were successful in arresting inter-district thief who had committed thefts for the past few days in Dharmasthala, Mundaje, Kakkinje, Ujire, Somanthadka, Kalmanja, Kanyadi, Guruvayanakere, Neriya and Venoor.

Suresh K Poojary (50) is the accused who is in police custody now.

It was confirmed during interrogation that Suresh was roaming on a stolen scooter in the night and used to steal from houses. The police team, which was tracking the theft of Rs 50000 cash stolen from drawer of Prasanna Provision stores of Somanthada market on August 9, hit upon the accused and arrested him.

Suresh is an infamous thief. He has got cases filed against him in Karkala rural police station, Shirva, Hiriyadka, Padubidri, Mulky, Hebri, Udupi city, Davanagere rural and Belagavi Market police stations.

Suresh was in prison and was released on bail just two months ago. He is addicted to Matka gambling. During interrogation, he confessed that he has lost the stolen money in gambling.

Police have confiscated Rs 20,220 and a scooter from the accused. The court sent him to 15 days of judicial custody.
