Bangalore, Aug 10: With the help of a bus driver, the police have managed to recover gold ornaments worth Rs 1 crore which was stolen from a jewellery shop in the city.

On reaching the bus depot in Hosakote, Basuvaraju, a bus driver, discovered a bag in the lugguage carrier. While checking the contents of the bag, he found that it had gold ornaments. He immediately informed the management and the police.

After verification, the police confirmed that the bag had loot that was stolen from Abhushan Jewellers by a Sohan Lal Khatri in Jayanagar recently.

Khatri had been working as a salesperson in the shop for the past three years.  A CCTV camera caught him pocketing the valuables. A manhunt was launched soon after that.

Police suspect that Khatri must have boarded the bus to Mumbai with the loot and fled after noticing police combing through vehicles.

A police official said, ""Fearing that he would be caught red-handed, he might have abandoned the baggage in the bus and escaped. After the passengers got off at the last stop, Basavaraju found Khatri's bag and conveyed the information." Efforts are on to trace Khatri.
