Step-mother kills infant by feeding pesticide-laced milk in Yadgir

Yadgir, Sep 1 (IANS): A five-month-old girl was killed by her step-mother by feeding her milk laced with pesticide in Babala village in Karnataka's Yadgir district.

The incident occurred on August 30, police said on Friday.

According to police, as Siddappa did not have children with his first wife Sridevi, he married Devamma and became parents to four children. Recently, Sridevi gave birth to a girl who was named Sangeetha.

Thinking that Sangeetha would get the share in the property, Devamma decided to finish her off and fed her milk laced with pesticide, leading to infant's death.

Vadagera police have taken Devamma into custody in connection with the case.

On a different note, I thought you can't marry another woman/man unless you formally divorce the former one. How is it possible, where are the rules?
