Bangalore: Katta Senior, Junior Denied Bail, to Continue in Judicial Custody

Bangalore, Aug 10: The father-son duo of former minister and Shivajinagar MLA Katta Subramanya Naidu and his Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator Katta Jagadish will have to continue to in judicial custody for their alleged involvement in Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) scam, with the Karnataka High Court deciding to hear their bail pleas only tomorrow.

Though Katta Subramanya Naidu, his son Katta Jagadish and S V Srinivas, Managing Director of Itaska software firm (who is also in judicial custody) moved their bail applications together, the bail application of Srinivas alone that was assigned to Justice Arvind Kumar today.

When the application of Srinivas came up for hearing today, the court ordered notice to Lokayukta and granted time to it (Lokayukta) till Aug 12 to file its objections in the case involving alleged pocketing of a huge sum of Rs 85 crore as kickbacks from Itaska for allotting 325 acres of land to company for setting up a IT park.

When counsel for Katta Senior and Jagadish requested the court to hear their bail applications tomorrow, it acceded to the request.

Both the father-son duo of Kattas are housed in the same cell.

The special Lokayukta Court had rejected the bail pleas of the trio in connection with the KIADB land scam and irregularities in securing compensation for those whose lands were acquired.

The court remanded them in judicial custody till Aug 22, after which police took them into custody.

Naidu is the first former minister in Karnataka to undergo judicial custody over allegations of corruption.
