Udupi, Sep 5: The significance of education as a catalyst for societal change was underscored by K Jayaprakash Hegde, president of the State Backward Class Commission, who stated that "Education is a continuous process with no limitations on its reach or age.
It is through education that we can bring about transformative change in society." Hegde made these remarks while inaugurating the Teacher's Day program held at the Shamili Shanaya Auditorium in Udupi, commemorating Dr S Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary. The event was organized by the district administration, zilla panchayat, School Education Department, Office of the Deputy Director of Education, and Block Education Office in Brahmavar.
Hegde emphasized the pivotal role played by teachers in instilling good principles in children, ultimately shaping them into educated and responsible members of society. Quoting the renowned national poet Kuvempu, he stressed that primary school education is the foundation for cultivating peace in society. He further highlighted that education and healthcare are the cornerstones of a state's progress and underscored the importance of patience in the field of education. Hegde also emphasized the significance of fostering a harmonious atmosphere within schools, as this is essential for achieving positive outcomes.
In his address, he stated, "Children develop a competitive spirit when they are mentally and physically robust, and it is the responsibility of teachers to ensure this. While maintaining the quality of education, teachers should encourage children to step forward and instill in them a sense of unity."
Dr K Vidyakumari, the deputy commissioner, emphasized the respected roles played by teachers and doctors in society, stating that teachers shape children into responsible citizens, while doctors maintain the community's health. She urged teachers to guide students on the right path and cultivate values that contribute to the betterment of society.
"Teachers are the first role models for children. They should work collaboratively to help students excel in SSLC and PUC examinations. At the same time, teachers should also allocate time for their families within their demanding profession," Dr. Vidyakumari added.
MLA Yashpal A Suvarna presided over the program, where five teachers each from junior primary schools, primary schools, and high schools were honored for their dedication to education.
The event also featured a lecture by Dr H S Ballal, the pro-Chancellor of Mahe, a health camp, a blood donation drive for teachers, and a captivating cultural program presented by the teachers.
In attendance were Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, zilla panchayat CEO Prasanna H, Chantaru gram panchayat president Prema Shetty, district DIET principal Govinda Madivala, Brahmavar block education officer Ranganath, Udupi BEO Dr Ashok Kamath, G Shanker, Family Trust Trustee Nadoja Dr G Shanker, and various district and taluk-level teacher's organization officials, as well as teachers from different schools.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by deputy director of public instruction Ganapathi K, while teachers Sathischandra Shetty Chitrapadi and Subiksha Kavadi skillfully compered the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prashanth Hegde, president of the Brahmavar Taluk Primary and School Teacher's Association.
