Mangaluru, Sep 5: In a tenure spanning just seven months, outgoing Mangaluru police commissioner Kuldeep Jain made an indelible mark on the city through his distinctive working style and strong rapport with the public.

However, the hopes of the public were short-lived as Kuldeep Jain's transfer, which occurred within seven months, left many disappointed. The netizens have expressed their discontent on social media, deeming the decision to transfer the commissioner in such a short duration as unfair.

Kuldeep Jain had established a commendable relationship with the public during his tenure and was deeply committed to serving the community. Under his leadership, significant changes were witnessed in policing, traffic management, and the Commissioner's swift responsiveness to public concerns.

Fighting the drug menace

Since he took office as police commissioner, Kuldeep Jain initiated a crackdown on drug-related activities, resulting in the transformation of Mangaluru into a drug-free city. Over the past three months, he spearheaded operations against drug peddlers, leading to the arrest of more than 60 individuals and the seizure of drugs worth over Rs 50 lakh. The focus of these operations was on seizing MDMA, a substance on the rise in Mangaluru. Notably, the Police Commissioner even confiscated drug-laced chocolates from Car Street.

Tackling gambling, matka

In addition to combating drug-related issues, Kuldeep Jain also prioritized addressing gambling problems. He initiated action against the rampant Matka operations in Mangaluru, filing 46 cases and arresting 148 individuals associated with the illegal gambling racket.

Reviving the 'Phone-In' program

Under his leadership, the Commissioner resurrected the "Phone-In" program, which had been dormant for over three years. This program facilitated direct contact between the Commissioner and the public, allowing for swift responses to complaints received via phone. Several cases were resolved as a result of this initiative, earning widespread appreciation from the public.

Apprehending long-evading accused

One of Kuldeep Jain's significant achievements was apprehending accused individuals who had been evading arrest for over a decade. During his seven-month tenure, more than 25 such individuals were arrested. The most recent arrest, on September 5th, involved an individual who had eluded capture for more than 14 years.

Public-friendly initiatives

Kuldeep Jain earned a reputation for his prompt response to public concerns. He was always available to address grievances and responded swiftly to complaints received via social media or phone calls. To streamline visits to police stations, QR code scanners were introduced at each station. The Commissioner's office would call those who visited the station to ensure they were not inconvenienced. Additionally, a phone number was established to help recover lost phones, resulting in more than 100 phones being returned to their rightful owners.

Concern for youth and seniors

Kuldeep Jain exhibited concern for the city's youth, taking steps to address issues such as traffic accidents involving minors. He personally contacted parents at police stations to raise awareness about traffic rules and warned them of potential legal consequences if they provided two-wheelers to minors. He also engaged with drug users and peddlers, counseling them and guiding their rehabilitation into mainstream society. His interactions with students, educational institutions, and parents were instrumental in combating the distribution of drug-laced chocolates.

Moreover, he took measures to ensure the safety of senior citizens, visiting their residences to assess their security following a complaint received during the "Phone-In" program.

Traffic management and road safety

After the tragic death of a conductor, Commissioner Jain initiated a campaign targeting bus drivers and conductors who stood on footboards. Over 174 cases were registered against violators, along with 45 cases for shrill horns and 50 cases for tinted glass usage within the last 15 days.

Crackdown on traffic offenses

Kuldeep Jain submitted more than 500 requests to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to cancel driving licenses for traffic rule violations, including reckless driving, drunk driving, riding without helmets, and using mobile phones while driving.

Combatting the sale of E-cigarettes

Kuldeep Jain tackled the rampant sale of e-cigarettes in Mangaluru, conducting raids that resulted in the seizure of e-cigarettes worth over Rs 10 lakh. He also urged the Municipal Corporation to cancel trade licenses for shops repeatedly selling e-cigarettes.

Cybercrime awareness

Commissioner Jain actively promoted awareness about cybercrimes, cautioning the public about scams through social media platforms and fraudulent loan apps.

Efficient management of elections

Despite being in office for only a few months, Kuldeep Jain skillfully managed the complex task of overseeing the 2023 elections, ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
