Udupi, Aug 12: A function was organized here on Thursday August 11 as a memorial to Dr Pallathadka Keshav Bhat, a botany professor based in Venezuela, who later became a well-known ethnobotanist pursuing the treatment of diseases through natural remedies in which he was vastly successful.
Speaking on the occasion, retired vice-chancellor of Manipal University, Dr B M Hegde, said that it is possible to use water as an alternative fuel to run vehicles, if scientists are able to find ways to separate atomic hydrogen from water.
The function was held at the Ravindra Mantap of MGM College here, under the aegis of Suruli Publications Manipal, MGM College, and Govinda Pai Research Centre. Dr Hegde was giving an example towards kindling an urge for research and invention among the children during their early school days.
Hegde reiterated that the common base of every disease is fear. He said that the Pancha Bhutas (elements) out of which everything in the globe including human body are made of as per Hindu belief systems, have an embedded system of healing themselves in case of problems. “This is known as immune system. We tend to destroy the immune system and then accept whatever someone offers to cure the disease,” he commented. He advised the people to visit ‘Death By Medicine’ in the internet and study an article on the subject authored by Gary Null.
On the occasion, an portrait in oil of Dr Bhat, painted by Pavana Acharya, daughter of the celebrated scientist, was unveiled by S Usman Ali, director of Centre For Traditional Medicine and Research, Chennai.
MGM College principal, Dr P Venkatramana Gowda, was present. On this occasion, a work titled ‘Suruli’ on the life and achievements of Dr Keshav Bhat, was released. Scholar, Dr Padekallu Vishnu bhat, introduced the work. Pavana Acharya welcomed. Dr Anasuya Devi proposed vote of thanks. Dr Suma Bhat explained about the achievements of Dr Bhat with the help of a documentary. Dr Putti Vasant Kumar presented the programme.
