Mangalore: Heavy Rainfall Continues in Karnataka Coast

Mangalore, Aug 13: Almost all the places in Dakshina Kannada district and many in Udupi district received heavy rains on Friday August 12. Compared to other taluks of the twin-districts, rainfall in Kundapur taluk was considerably less.

A house belonging to Aisamma from Alake in Narimogaru village in Puttur taluk crashed to the ground on the night of Wednesday August 11. Losses suffered in this incident have been estimated at over a lac of rupees. Food, clothes, utensils etc in the house got buried under the debris. No one was injured.

The roof of a house in Kotekar Madyar collapsed, inflicting a loss of about a lac of rupees on the house owner, Jalajakshi. MLA, U T Khader, visited the spot and instructed revenue officials to speed up the relief process. Anther house owned by Gowri in Yadtady Saibarakatte in Udupi taluk was partially damaged because of torrential rain.

Karkala received 12 cms of rain, while other places on the coast received between six and nine cms. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in a few places on Karnataka coast during the next two days. It has asked the fishermen to exercise caution, as rain upto 65 mm with strong winds are predicted during this period.
