Much-awaited Konkani movie ‘Osmitay’ premiered in Udupi

Udupi, Sep 11: The premiere show of the much-awaited Konkani movie ‘Osmitay’ was held in Bharath Cinemas, Manipal on Sunday September 10.

Ivan D’Souza, former MLC inaugurated the premiere show by playing the traditional ‘Ghumat’.

Wishing the best to the movie, Ivan D’Souza said, "There is enough Konkani speaking population in Udupi too. Earlier, we used to watch dramas, but today the medium has changed to films. It is difficult to produce a big budget movie in Konkani, but still Mandd Sobhann has taken a big step. Let us dedicate this film to the community. Let the movie be screened in all the places of the world where Konkani speaking population resides. Let this film create a hope in film producers to produce more Konkani films.”

Fr Denis D'Sa, PRO diocese of Udupi said, “Producing and making a film is like undergoing the pain of labour. I congratulate the entire team for putting efforts in making the film. We are today watching the final product here, but there is an effort of more than two years behind this two-hour movie. Let us appreciate Kalaradhan Pangla, Parichaya Pamboor and Nirantar Udyavar for holding the premiere show. Every community has identity. The first level of identity is language, dress, food and house, and the second level consists of dance, music, festivals, stories etc, The third level of identity consists of philosophy of life. Today, we are watching the first and second level of identities through this movie. Do not compare this movie with other commercial films. Let us be inclusive. As a PRO, I will promote this film.”

Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general diocese of Udupi in his wishes said, “Let us appreciate Mandd Sobhann for this movie. Organizations like Parichaya Pamboor, Kalaradhan Pangla and Nirantar Udyavar and others have supported this premiere show. This is a challenge and Louis Pinto and Mandd Sobhan have taken this up challenge.”

Parichaya Pamboor, Kalaradhan Pangla, Nirantar Udyavar and an enthusiastic team of individuals of Udupi district supported in organizing the premiere show of ‘Osmitay’ in Udupi.

Fr Alwyn Sequeira, editor Uzwaad, Fr Dr Alwyn Serrao, playwright and DJ Sujay conveyed their best wishes for the movie.

Co-director and screenplay writer Joel Pereira gave an overview of the film.

Chancellor diocese of Udupi Fr Roshan D’Souza, actor Stany Alvares, joint secretary Mandd Sobhann Naveen Lobo, parish priest Holy Cross Church Pamboor Fr Henry Mascarenhas, actor Sunil Siddhi, and Anil D'Sa Pangla were present.

Prakash Noronha, secretary Parichaya Pamboor welcomed the gathering. Alwyn Danthi Pernal compered the programme.

The movie will be released on September 15. It will be screened in Kalpana Theatre and Bharat Cinemas Manipal (Canara Mall) in Udupi.
