Kasargod, Aug 13: Angered at the reports that the police investigation report with the single-judge commission headed by Jystice M A Nisar had found Muslim League guilty of wrongdoings, a gang threw stones at the house of Justice Nisar at Kannur on the night of Thursday August 11. It may be recalled, that the state government had dissolved the commission on July 26 this year, after deciding to pay a compensation of five lac rupees to the family of the lone victim who was killed in the firing. The government said it did not deem continuance of the probe a necessity, as CBI is already investigating the matter.

The commission was appointed to inquire into the November 15, 2009 firing at a public meeting organized by Muslim League here. The police had said they had to open fire to quell violence.

On Friday evening, the regional committee of Youth Muslim League took out a procession in the town, protesting against the leakage of the police investigation report, from its office at Chakkar Bazar, to the old bus stand.

The gunman of the judge had left to have his food, when the incident occurred. Window panes of the house were shattered, and the judge and his wife were alone at the residence at the time. The miscreants fled from the scene immediately, and the police security to the house was reinforced. Certain quarters are angry as they feel that the presiding officer of the commission was behind the leakage of the contents of the above report.

Kerala energy minister, Aryadan Mohammed, has alleged that Justice Nisar had a hand in the leakage of the police investigation report in the incident. He accused the judge of having political leanings, and that the policemen had been trying to escape from responsibility by leaking a report that was expected to be kept secret. Retired superintendent of police, Ramdas Pothen, a bullet fired by whom reportedly claimed the life of a youth named Shafeeq from Cheruvathur Payyani, said that he had no role in the leakage of the report. He also pooh-poohed the rumour that the police report had said that Muslim League was working to spread violence in the state.

The district committee of BJP condemned the incident, and accused Muslim League of having a hand in the stone-throwing incident. BJP district president, M Narayan Bhat, and general secretary, , V Balakrishna Shetty, said in a press statement that Muslim League, which is a partner in the United Democratic Front government in Kerala, had been misusing its powers to get favours.
