Udupi, Sep 13: The Bengaluru CCB Police squad arrested two persons accused in a multi-crore cheating case here at the Sri Krishna Math parking area.
In true cinematic style and in a swift operation, the police took into custody Chaitra Kundapura, one of the prime accused who had been at large in a multi-crore cheating case who had promised a MLA ticket to an industrialist.
The BJP ticket aspirant industrialist Govinda Babu for Byndoor seat in the district had been cheated of about Rs 7 crore and the accused had identified himself as a social worker from the Billawa community.
The accused had taken advantage of the industrialist’s innocent nature, it is learnt.
Chaitra Kundapura from the North Karnataka region is reported to have staged a drama with four or five others in a team and promised a BJP ticket to the industrialist.
The accused had allegedly cheated the industrialist in the name of RSS and central BJP leadership. Chaitra and her team had foisted a fake identity in the name of RSS leadership and cheated the industrialist, it is said.
The police also took into custody Srikanth Nayak, another accused in the case.
Both the accused have been taken to an unknown location by the police. The industrialist was cheated in three phases involving a sum of Rs 7 crore who had been given an assurance of a party ticket for Byndoor.
So far, the police have arrested four accused in the cheating case. Besides Chaitra and Srikanth, the others who have been arrested are Gagan Kaduru and Prasad.
Chaitra Kundapura is popular among right wing activists and Hindutva followers. FIRs have been lodged against her in connection with delivering hate speeches.
As per latest information, Chaithra Kundapura and Srikanth Nayak are being taken to Bengaluru and will be presented by Wednesday evening before the court.
