Kasaragod, Sep 13: A farmer has developed a ropeway system to reduce workload and get work done faster. Even a child can pull a gunny bag full of arecanuts through this method.

The farmland of coastal region are not on level land geographically. Most of the houses of agriculturists is situated 30 to 40 feet above the farmland. The job of taking manure etc to the farmland and bringing the crop from farmland to the houses are time consuming and strenuous activities.

Progressive farmer Srihari Bhat, a resident of Sanjamgadde near Perla in the district has built this unique ropeway. He has insstalled a ropeway directly to the farmland from his house. Even a bag or any goods weighing more than 50 kilos can be transferred through this method.

The ropeway has been prepared by using rotating wheels and clamps. A support of an iron pillar of nine feet is given at one end which is situated at the verandah of the house and another in the farmland. These pillars are firmly set inside three feet of mud.

The cable that is used is that of iron which has thickness of eight mm. A rotating wheel has been installed on the cable while a fixed rotating wheel is installed near the pillar in the verandah with a nylon rope.

"Due to this ropeway around 50% of the workload is reduced," says Srihari Bhat. Now this ropeway has created a sensation in the coastal region and more and more agriculturists are adopting this method.
