Beltangady: Three Pilgrims Drown at Dharmasthala on 'Shravana Somavara'

Beltangady, Aug 16: On Monday August 15, which happened to be a holy day, being Somavara (Monday) falling in ‘Shravana’ month, thousands of pilgrims had thronged Dharmasthala to have a holy bath in river Netravati. Three among them drowned.

The body of Cheluvaraju (35) from Mysore, who had been taking bath in the river before getting washed away, was recovered. He had come to the temple town with his friends. His friend, Sandesh, filed a complaint about the tragedy with Beltangady police station.

Two others also went missing while having the holy dip. However, their identities could not be established. Those who were taking bath at the bathing bay informed the police and one of the bodies was recovered later. As no complaints have been received so far, the police believe that these two unidentified victims had come here on their own.
