Mangalore, Aug 16: Although rain was less during the day on Monday Augut 15, it resumed fury at night. Almost all the places in Karnataka coast soaked in copious rains.

Sea erosion worsened since Monday morning near Tottam within the limits of Yermal gram panchayat in Udupi district. By afternoon, the fisheries road near the shore was washed away by the surging sea. As the road became nonexistent, people and students had to take a longer route to reach their destinations.  MLA, Lalaji Mendon, visited the spot and instructed the engineers to speed up erection of protective wall in the region. He also contacted the deputy commissioner of the district and urged him to undertake relief measures at the earliest.

Mulky registered the highest rainfall of seven cms. Other places in the coast registered an average of four cms of rainfall. The meteorological department said that many places in the coast and some interior regions will receive rains during the period till Wednesday morning.
